The spot is for Burger King’s SpongeBob SquarePants kids’ meal. Of course, when I think BK, SpongeBob and kids, my mind instantly goes to the wholesome strains of Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back.”
What? Yours doesn’t? Maybe that’s why you aren’t working at the brilliance factory known as CP+B. Don’t ask why I’m not, but it involves glycerin, squirrels and a Zippo.
Anyway, I can’t figure out if this ad is supposed to be targeted to parents or kids, but I don’t think it matters – it misses both. Because let’s be honest, the phrase “booty is booty” should never be uttered in a spot for a kids’ product that doesn’t involve pirates. And even then, it’s suspect.
Here’s the spot. Judge for yourself:
Later,
Fox
I actually think kids would love this ad, they would think it’s funny. They wouldn’t understand the sexual undertones in the ad or the original song.
Oh and I’ve heard 5 year olds use the word “botty”, they think its a cute way to say bum.
Dang, that’s the fastest post-to-first-comment time ever at The AdHole. I agree with you to a certain extent. Kids aren’t going to get the pervtacular nature of the ad — although the gyrating SpongeButts aren’t something I want my kids watching at all. (Is gyrating the universal language? Discuss.) I also know kids who use booty, but their context is different than Sir MAL’s boo-tay.
this just in from my 5 year old son…
” A Spongebob toy ? Huh.. is this McDonald’s ?”
” Oh.. KFC ? “
” Oh its Burger king … Where’s King Patrick ? ”
The animation on the TV cuts and the toy was the only thing Mason looked at – the rest of it I’m pretty sure is for us Adults
..Heres a footnote
I found Mason last comment about King Patrick odd? I asked him where did you see King Patrick and played the spot again – nothing…
So I put my awesome research skills to task and searched SpongePedia for
King Patrick episode

IMO – I feel like saying WOW – not only nail the parents down with the Sir Mixalot track and visuals but the King Patrick tie in
I sure there must be some creative Voodoo at work.
