January 26, 2008 – The preferred gestational period for babies of human descent is 40 weeks. So when the twins – okay, the boy – decided that just over 33 weeks in the womb was quite enough, thank you, we were a bit shocked. After all, why would such a tiny human voluntarily emerge into a world where he – and his sister – would immediately be separated from their parents, placed under lights in glass boxes and poked with IVs and feeding tubes?
Obviously, for the cool hats.
So here they are at long, if not quite long enough, last. Gideon Maxwell – 4 lbs. 8 oz., 17 1/2 inches – and Charlotte Elena – 4 lbs. 7.6 oz., 18 inches. Both already dominating the NICU, breathing on their own and threatening to spawn sweet, ”˜fro-based hair.
We cannot thank God enough for them.
